10th annual Pink October Ladies Nite Out!

Paige and I (and the farm girls) went to the 10th annual Susan B. Komen fundraiser in Marksville last w/e and one of the speakers read this poem.

What cancer can NOT do!

Cancer is so limited
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit.

I think it is so Uplifting!
Love you,
Janice

Thanks Jon!

You did a great job! I love the font selection and the color pink.

Whoever has that picture of Candy standing beside her Mustang in Benton should post it! That picture brings back some GREAT ol' memories!

Love,
Janice

Basic Info

This is some of the basics that I know about Mom's treatment:

1. She had a porta-cath placed in her left shoulder area on Friday, October, 20.
2. She is on two different chemo drugs as well as one anti-nausea med.
3. Gemcitabine is the IV med that she gets once a week at the hospital. Aloxi is the anti-nausea med that is also administered through the IV 30 minutes prior to her chemo treatment. Tarceva is the other chemo med that is taken daily in pill form.
4. Tarceva causes Mom to break out in a rash. She takes Benadryl as needed when the rash becomes itchy.
5. She has had two chemo sessions at the hospital. They attempted to use the porta-cath for the second session, but the area was still to swollen for the nurse to find the "bell" and she missed when she inserted the needle.
6. Her next session is scheduled for Wednesday morning (11/1) at 8:00 AM.

My Favorite Picture

This is my favorite picture of Glen and
Candy and as you can tell it's a football
game. Most of the town was here on a
Friday night to watch the Benton Tigers
whip up (hopefully) on another one of
their rivals.

Both of you are continually in our
prayers.

Intro

This blog was created for my mom, Reverend Candy Martin, and for our friends and family to keep everyone up-to-date on her progress. For those of you who do not know already, mom has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It was found by the Grace of God since the doctors were not looking for it, nor was she showing any signs or symptoms. She has started chemotherapy and has so far tolerated it well. It is my intention to use this blog to help cordinate family and friends as well as track her treatments and progress. If you know of anyone that would be interested in posting or simply reading this blog, please have them contact me or Patti.
